Saturday, Aug 30

Bagel Ride to Duarte 8:00

Hungry yet? This ride takes us from the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena out to Arcadia for a stop at Goldstein's Bagels. From there we'll meander out to Duarte before heading back. No major climbs, but a few small rolling things and a couple of areas where there is a very mild incline. Body by Bagels! Mmmmm....

Goldsteins Bagel Ride (option 2)   36 miles
The route will take us through scenic residential areas. We will stop for coffee and bagels at Goldstein's Bagels in Arcadia. After the rest stop, the route heads out to Duarte before heading back to the Aquatics Center. No major hills on the route, but there are a few rolling hills and some extended inclines.



MEETING PLACE: Pasadena Aquatics Center Parking Lot / 360 N. Arroyo Blvd., Pasadena / Take the 210, the 134 or the 110 to the Rose Bowl. Look for the Aquatics Center just south of the Rose Bowl on Arroyo, just across Seco. We meet in the parking lot, as close to the round, orange (kind of) Aquatics Center building as we can park.

Long Beach to Laguna Beach 9:00

***As a Metro Ride (or long drive) this ride earns double miles for Team 500 tallies.***

Route will start from 1st Street/Long Beach Blvd. Blue Line station. There is a Starbuck's within a block of the station where everyone will gather--

METRO USERS:

If starting from the Gold Line, buy a $5 day pass and take the southbound train departing from Sierra Madre at 7:02 (7:12 Filmore Station, 7:18 Highland Park, etc)  Larry will be on hand and will guide you from Union Station to the Red Line where you'll exit at the 7th Street/Metro Center station. From there take the 7:52 Blue Line to Long Beach.

 

If starting from the Red Line buy a $5 day pass and take the Eastbound train scheduled to arrive at 7th Street/Metro Center at 7:42 or the Westbound train scheduled to arrive there at 7:40. (Click on the Red Line link below to find out departing times from the station most convenient to you. Remember to scroll down to the Saturday/Sunday/Holiday section. Most of you will likely be coming Eastbound.) From there take the 7:52 Blue Line to Long Beach.

Long Beach to Laguna Beach   60 miles
A scenic, fairly flat ride down Pacific Coast Highway. There will be some hills, however, in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. There can be some stiff headwinds coming back along the coast, so don't eat too big a lunch! A great ride, especially when it's hot inland.

Monday, Sep 1

Chevy Chase Climb 8:00
Climb up Chevy Chase, across La Canada-Flintridge and up to Montrose. We'll have a rest stop for coffee in Montrose Village at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf before heading down to the park. We'll get an early start so that you can still make it the summer time kick off BBQ or whatever fun festivities you have cooked up for the holiday!

Chevy Chase (option 3)   24 miles
A hilly ride through Glendale, up Chevy Chase, across La Canada-Flintridge and up Descanso to Montrose for a rest stop. It's mostly downhill back down to the park from there. A fun ride, but you will get a workout on Chevy Chase!



MEETING PLACE: Griffith Park Pony Rides Parking Lot / Crystal Springs Drive, Griffith Park, Los Angeles / Enter Griffith Park on Crystal Springs Drive, at the intersection of Los Feliz and Riverside. Park in the Pony Rides parking lot -- the first lot on your right as you enter the park.


Saturday, Sep 6

Griffith Park Mulholland 7:30

Join us for a loop from Griffith Park into the Valley along the foothills below Mulholland, followed by a climb up Sepulveda that will take us up to Mulholland. We'll glide up and down the rolling hills along the top of Mulholland and enjoy a breathtaking descent down to Cahuenga and back to the park.

Griffith Park Mulholland   40 miles
A scenic, but somewhat hilly ride from Griffith Park out to the Valley and along the foothills below Mulholland. After a rest stop, the route climbs Sepulveda and travels along the top of Mulholland before a stunning descent back down the hill and into the park. Bring some legs!



MEETING PLACE: Griffith Park Pony Rides Parking Lot / Crystal Springs Drive just off Los Feliz, Los Angeles / Take the 5, the 134 or city streets to Griffith Park. Enter the park at Crystal Springs Drive at the intersection of Los Feliz and Riverside. Riverside becomes Crystal Springs Drive when you enter the park. We meet in the parking lot on your right just as you enter the park. Park as close to the Pony Rides as possible.


Tuesday, Sep 9

Valley Loop 2:30


This is a gradual climb to the northwest corner of the Valley. 15 miles up and about the same back to the parking lot.

Valley Loop   28 miles
Slightly uphill on the way out, with one short steep hill. DOWNHILL all the way back. No one will be left behind.

Saturday, Sep 13

Balboa Park to Westlake 8:00

A beautiful ride starting from Balboa Rec Center out to Westlake. We'll have rolling hills throughout the route as we make our way across the Valley, into Calabasas, and out to our rest stop in Westlake. Plenty of beautiful scenery along the way. Stretch out your mileage and enjoy a wonderful route!

Balboa Park to Westlake (option 2)   47 miles



MEETING PLACE: / 5620 Balboa Blvd, Encino / 101 Frwy. to Balboa Blvd. exit. From eastbound 101, make a left--from westbound 101 make a right. Go past Burbank Blvd. and make a left into the first parking lot next to the softball fields. DO NOT PARK in the lot on Burbank Blvd.


Sunday, Sep 14

Beginners Ride! 9:30

This ride begins and ends at Starbucks in Atwater Village on Los Feliz.

This will be a leisurely 12 miles designed with the beginner in mind. On the way back, we'll stop for a bite to eat.b>



Beginner Ride   12 miles
This is a short and mostly flat ride through Atwater Village and Griffith Park. We will ride at an easy pace, regrouping twice if necessary.

Saturday, Sep 20

La Tuna & Lida 8:00

One of our favorite rides from Griffith Park, out around the studios, across the foothills of Burbank for a nice, long climb up La Tuna Canyon. After the climb, we'll cruise on over to Montrose for a coffee break before heading over to Pasadena and a climb up and over Lida. From there it's mostly downhill back to the park.

La Tuna Canyon & Lida   45 miles
From Griffith Park, head out through the foothills of Burbank and Glendale out to Sun Valley for a quick stop at Sunland Produce. Climb up and over La Tuna for a rest stop in Montrose Village before heading over Lida for another, but shorter, climb. The descent down Chevy Chase makes it all worthwhile, as you finish up with a mostly flat ride back to the park through Glendale and Griffith Park.

Santa Susana Pass 8:00

Very gradual incline to the north end of the Valley. Then it's up and over Santa Susana Pass. We will have a rest stop in Simi Valley before coming back over Santa Susana. It's pretty much flat or down hill back to our cars.

Saturday, Sep 27

Rosarito Ensenada! 10:00

Head to Baja California for this 50 mile bicycle ride along the Pacific Coast and inland through rural countryside from Rosarito Beach to Ensenada We'll eat and shop in Rosarito on Friday night and then meet up for breakfast before the ride on Saturday. After the ride we'll do the post ride fiesta then shuttle back to Rosarito. You can register for the ride, make reservations at the host hotel, and aquire Mexico car insurance from the link below.
